Burberry Complete Eye Palette Rose Pink No. 10
A quick QB note: I picked up a few really great items that I can't wait to show you over the next 1-2 weeks! It's just a matter of having weather good enough to get enough swatch photos. I may give up and give you posts with fewer photos than I would like just to share these goodies. This is the first post of my really great new buys. To give you an idea, I had to wait 6 days after purchasing just to get a day without rain, let alone sun!
While I may have thrown Burberry Beauty's Complete Eye Palette Rose Pink No. 10 out in a prior Sunday Dreaming post, I never figured that I'd run into it in person, let alone buy it within 8 days of dreaming about it and mere days after buying a solo pink eyeshadow from the line! Ah, c'est la vie.
For the 90% of the country without a local Burberry counter at Nordstrom or Saks, let me share with you a hidden secret: Burberry boutiques are starting to carry the current limited edition shades from each collection in-store. A recent doctor's appointment left me literally across the street from a local mall I visit rather infrequently but has a Burberry boutique (where I spotted the holiday collection a couple of months ago). It was right around 5PM- evening rush hour. Given the choice between sitting in traffic or meandering through a mall for a bit, I chose the mall. They had the entire collection in-store, with all six runway nail polishes, two blushes, both eyeshadow quads, mascara, lip gloss, a lip glow, and a face product. For obvious reasons, I didn't want to snap a photo of the setup. Although this review is about the eye palette, let me address the nail shades for a moment. They're all beautiful but only the green stood out as somewhat unique. I feel like I have dupes for most of the colors already in my collection.
I almost came home with both quads. Although I was set upon buying Rose Pink (if I picked one up), Sage Green No 15 kept calling out to me. I love the colors in that quad, but had to keep reminding myself how I can't wear green shadows, particularly light ones! See this post or this post for some photos of Sage Green. I nabbed the last Rose Pink Palette, but spotted around 8-10 Sage Green palettes left in the drawer as the associate pulled my purchase. Apparently Rose Pink is the more popular choice, both among bloggers (based the number of reviews I saw) and in my local area.
First, the details. Burberry Complete Eye Palettes retail for $59, and contain four eyeshadows that weigh in at a total 0.19oz. For comparison, Chanel quads weigh in at 0.24oz for $59, Dior's quints contain 0.21oz for $60, and Tom Ford quads weigh in at 0.35oz for $78. Burberry solo shadows retail for $29 and contain 0.088oz of product.
Once again, the Burberry plaid looks irresistible wrapping the quad. Three small brushes (one foam, one rounded brush, and one angle brush) are tucked into the front pocket. It's a cute touch. The brushes aren't particularly great, but it's a twist on a classic.
I enjoy the aesthetic of the palette, but dislike the difference in the pan size between the central shades and those in the corners. All pans are stamped with the plaid pattern that's used in all of their powder products.
I'm just going to take a moment to enjoy the beauty of this unspoiled palette. I hope that you enjoy these photos, especially the "sun" ones. I caught some brief sun, but had a hard time keeping my hands from turning pink because it was that cold.
Rose Pink is a limited edition product for Spring 2014. This collection is dubbed "English Rose," and this qualifies.
Rose Pink #1 is a mid-toned rose shade with limited shimmer. It's the type of shade that I routinely struggle with wearing. Swatched, it's quite pigmented and I've been experimenting with ways to work with it. I imagine it would be lovely on medium-to-dark complexions more than my super fair skin.
Rose Pink #2 is a taupey pink that reminds me of Rosewood. Upon closer examination, Rosewood is darker and more intensely pink than Rose Pink #2. I find this to be the easiest shade to wear for all-over color. I suspect it would work well on all complexions. Burberry does neutrals quite well, as I'm learning.
Rose Pink #3 is a light, shimmering pink. I know I've seen this shade before but can't place it at the moment. It is one of the more shimmering shades in the quad and could easily read as frosty. It's lovely on my fair skin, but it may be borderline on darker complexions.
Rose Pink #4 is a shimmering nude that's close to my skintone. It is probably best used as an accent or highlighting shade. Like Rose Pink #3, this can easily move into frosty territory. I used it mostly as a highlighting shade. I liked the illuminating look it gives, but it's sheer and geared towards fairer complexions.
In all swatches, I kept the shadows in the order referenced above. Just a warning: these look a lot frostier than they do in person. These shadows blend well and don't have the chalky edge I can see in my photos.

In terms of formula, I found this to be pretty similar to what I've experienced with Rosewood. I will admit that they're a bit dryer and lack the pure buttery feel that I've grown to love with Rosewood. However, I find these easily on-par with Dior or Chanel palettes.
I tested this palette over three days, with NARS eye primer. In all cases, the I got at least eight hours of wear before serious fading occurred. I had some slight fallout upon application, but that's it.
On another note, I'm happy that this blog is pushing my boundaries. I never would've bought this pink palette before- and I'd be missing out! This is Burberry item #4 for me- don't be surprised to see more of this band on the blog. I've got a few more items on my wishlist that I suspect I'll be picking up in no time at all.
Bottom Line: I'm happy that I bought this quad, although I probably didn't need to buy it back to back with Rosewood! Looking at other reviews, I experienced none of the formula problems that were reported by some. If pinks are your go-to, you probably have similar shades in your stash. If you're looking to expand your pink collection, I'd recommend giving this a look!

Tom Ford Spring 2014: Nail Lacquer in Incandescent
Today, I am finally going to show you my selection from Tom Ford's Spring 2014 line. Although I side-eyed the lipsticks more than a few times, I can't get my mind around the pricetag yet ($49). I can justify the nail polish ($32) due to its flawless formula. As someone notorious for destroying a manicure in less than a day, I treasure any formula that regularly yields 5 days of wear.
Incandescent is one of four limited-edition polishes from Tom Ford. You can tell these S/S polishes due to the white caps and gold boxes:
This polish is tough to describe. It's warm yet neutral, coppery gold yet has some rosy undertones. At the end of the day, the shimmer is just enough to look lovely and polished on the nail. Any brushstrokes fade into the nail.
I've got three coats, with no topcoat on in this photo. I find it to be lovely, and the formula a bit thinner than I was expecting- and requires a bit more concentration than the average Tom Ford.
I didn't swatch any possible dupes from my collection because I knew I didn't have one. Besides, I believe strongly that there's no such thing as a dupe for these high-end polishes in terms of formula.

NOTD: Deborah Lippmann La Vie en Rose
Today's NOTD is Deborah Lippmann La Vie en Rose, from Spring 2014. This polish has been notoriously difficult to photograph, and the weather/lighting has further complicated the situation. La Vie en Rose is a limited edition polish, and totally worth checking out.
This is a light pink polish with pink and gold shimmer that's visible both in the bottle and (subtly) on the nail. It's a pink version of Careless Whisper, if that makes sense to nail polish fans.
I've got 3 coats on my nails, and no top coat. Once again, I failed at showing the inherent shimmer-sorry! Go check this out in person, trust me!

Sunday Dreaming
This week's Sunday Dreaming is really more aspirational than most weeks. I did some mental calculations yesterday after I noticed the "XXX more dollars until VIB Rouge" banner in my shopping cart on Sephora. And I've spent just as much at Nordstrom. And then there are the Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Burberry, Ulta, MAC, Lord and Taylor.... you see where this is going. I've already booked two major beauty events this month where I'll likely spend several hundred dollars. I need to stop tempting myself!
(Don't worry, I picked up a silly amount of products this past week that I'm testing.)
1. L'Occitane Body & Hair Fabulous Oil ($36)
I've been looking at this longingly since it was launched. However, the relatively unused bottle of Caudalie Divine Oil is preventing me from purchasing it. I know oils are trendy right now, but this just seems lovely.
2. Drybar Hold Me Hair Clips ($16)
I know, $16 for hair clips is expensive. It isn't stopping me from looking at these every time I pass them in-store though.
3. Glamglow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment ($69)
I wish there was a small size to sample since I've had such different experiences with Glamglow masks. I hate the black mask as much as I love the white; I suspect I'll love this one but am hesitant to drop $69 on it just to find out.
4. Shiseido Benefiance Pure Retinol Instant Treatment Mask ($17.50)
Heads-up! Shiseido is releasing a 3-pack of their wonderful retinol eye masks for a mere $17.50. It's a perfect way to pamper yourself at a low price point.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush- Ethereal Glow
Today's product is one that I never expected to buy. I've never fallen in love with Hourglass' Ambient Lighting Powders in the past. I know that I'm in the minority on that one. It was no wonder that I initially passed on the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes.
I passed on these during the VIB pre-sale and subsequent ridiculous frenzy. I did my research and knew that these were permanent collection items, so there was no reason to stress myself out to get one or more. I like my beauty items stress-free, so I avoid overly-hyped releases like the plague (for instance, I don't own a certain rosy palette released late last year). But I digress.
There are six blushes in the Hourglass Ambient Light Blush collection. I purchased the lightest, Ethereal Glow. I seriously considered the coral-hued blush (Dim Infusion), but wanted to purchase just one to test the formula and see if I'd actually wear it before investing $35 in yet another coral blush.
For your $35, you receive 0.15oz of powder blush, which is actually a mixture of blush and Hourglass' Ambient Lighting Powders. The golden compact is beautiful, and comes with a nice mirror on the inside. A word to the wise: if you buy yours in-store, carefully check each compact because they all are different. Some are 50/50 blush/powder, others are 70/30, but I've also seen some unfortunate 20/80 and worse blends. Please be respectful and don't touch the blushes- and make sure the employees know what you're doing.
Ethereal Glow is described as "cool pink." I agree. Here's the pan outside, no flash:

Application of this blush is different than most. Hourglass suggests their No 2 Blush brush and tapping blush onto the apples and carefully blending. Note the shape of the brush- this requires some precision and a light hand. Lets think this through for a moment- these are half Ambient Lighting powder. Would you really want to smear highlighter all over your face? No. While I don't have the Hourglass brush, I used one of the glitter-handled Sephora face brushes from this past holiday on my face due to the small brush head. I also used it for swatching.
Enough of my rambling, this is what you're still reading for- swatches! Just a warning, it's hard to see Ethereal Glow.

I found the inside, with flash image to be the closest to what I saw in person.
Ethereal Glow is incredibly soft and light- this shade is not meant for most ladies. For us super-pale who just need a very light blush, it's perfect. It's similar to Dior Shimmer Star Rose Diamond, in that it could be used as a pink-hued highlighter by many people. However, I'd only recommend it as a blush for people who are as pale as I am. It allows me to look flawless, with an inner glow. It'll get lost as a blush on much darker skin.
In terms of the formula, it lasted for an entire workday for me. I tested this for three days and liked the effect. I think the color is lovely and there is enough pigment for me. I think this is a product worth exploring, but one that I'd strongly urge checking out in person to pick out the best one for your individual skintone.
Bottom Line: This shade in particular is limited in the skintones that it will flatter as a blush- but if you're in the market for a pink highlighter, stop by your nearest Sephora and play. I recommend the formula as a whole, and think this one product that is best discovered in-person in order to find the color best suited for each individual.

Today's NOTD is from Dior's Spring 2012 collection. Both Waterlily (photographed here) and Forget-Me-Not are lightly rose scented, although over time the scent has faded significantly, even when the polish is wet.

Drybar The Morning After Shower Cap
All of my fellow redheads who need a bit of chemical assistance understand me on this one: being a redhead is tough, expensive, and time-consuming. Unlike blondes and brunettes who can easily go 8-12 weeks between trips to the salon, based on their cut and how fast their hair grows, by week 4, the luster has already significantly faded from my red locks.
But what does this have to do with an expensive shower cap? Stay with me, readers.
One of the most critical things with getting your hair dyed red is avoiding fading as long as possible. Prolonging the time before the first wash as long as possible after visiting the salon is one of the best ways to do that. So is not washing your hair every day. If you take a shower; however, keeping your hair dry is easier said than done. Especially if your hair is long.
Enter my quest for a good shower cap. We've all seen ladies wearing less-than-chic and less-than-waterproof caps outside. I wanted to avoid that as much as possible. I also live by the motto of "buy once, but buy good" for most things. And shockingly enough, it's actually hard to find a shower cap these days!

Today's NOTD is Deborah Lippmann Prelude to a Kiss. I received this as a GWP, and wouldn't normally purchase it myself. Well, it's beautiful. It's a manequin-nails color for me.
